Har Herzl - by Rachel
When we arrived, we saw the IDF soldiers being ordered and marching around to get ready for next weeks Yom Ha'atzmaut celebration. After taking pictures of the soldiers marching - flags flying high and the music playing, we turned around and saw Theodore Herzl's tomb. After that, we walked to a sitting area and learned about Yitzhak Rabin and his assassination. Soon after, we went to his tomb, where there were thousands of stones - symbolizing that all people begin as dust, and return to the earth. We had a short ceremony at his grave, where we read about Rabin's life and Noam, Yael and Netta sang in Hebrew about his dying. Then we all stood, Brett lit a memorial candle and we all sang Hatikvah and then we left. Then we passes the graves of soldiers, as well as the likes of Teddy Kolleck, Golda Meir and Hannah Senesh. Seeing the ages of the soldiers - 39, 17, 21, 29 - was both shocking, and surprisingly really very inspiring.
