Jerusalem Day

We had a long day - but both interesting, fun and meaningful, in Jerusalem. We began the day by driving to Yad V'shem, the Israel memorial and museum of the Holocaust. Next, we walked for a few minutes to Har Herzl - the Israeli National Cemetary - and burial place of many of Israel's greatest leaders. While there, we saw the graves of Thedore Herzl, the founder of modern political Zionism, Golda Meir and Yitzhak Rabin, Israeli Prime Minister felled by a Jewish assassin's bullet. It was particularly festive, as stands had been built - a stage erected - and a band and soldiers marched, practicing for next weeks Yom Ha'atzmaut celebration. Then we drove to the old city - walking atop the walls all the way around the old city of Jerusalem, then to the archaelogical sites at Robinson's arch, and finally to the Kotel - the Western Wall. We saw lots - much of today was very moving, and we were all worn out by the time the bus got back tonight. i want to point out that this evening begins Yom HaShoah - the memorial day for the victims of the Holocaust - so a more perfect time for the activities of today could not be found.
